Unique Volvo 343 Variomatic 1977 from the first owner

A truly original Volvo 343 offered from its first owner. Mr Stam purchased this Volvo new on 9 March 1977 and carefully looked after it for more than 45 years. The car comes with the original Volvo brochures catalogues and information supplied by Volvo Netherlands together with a comprehensive file containing maintenance records and documentation relating to the Volvo 300 series. This is a very early Volvo 343 that still features many recognisable DAF design characteristics.

The exterior is finished in metallic blue with attractive chrome accents. The car has an honest original appearance with a few areas of touched up paint consistent with its age. The bodywork is solid with no serious rust and the underside has been well maintained over the years. The paintwork still retains a pleasing shine.

The interior is trimmed in beige cloth and fitted with the distinctive high back DAF Volvo 66 seats. These sought after seats are rarely found in beige. As shown in the photographs there are signs of use but the seats remain supportive and have not collapsed. The rear seat is currently protected by a cover as the original upholstery has become worn although the original fabric is still present underneath. The characteristic brown dashboard features the original Volvo clock. The combination of the beige interior and blue exterior creates a timeless and attractive appearance. The luggage compartment still contains the original Volvo accessory storage tray specially designed for the Volvo 343 which is a rare and desirable original accessory.

The original 1397 cc B14 engine produces 74 horsepower and the car has covered only 139278 kilometres. The mileage is documented and supported by the accompanying records. The engine has recently been recommissioned with the carburettor cleaned and adjusted and now runs smoothly. The Variomatic transmission operates correctly and shifts smoothly. The clutch has recently been adjusted although the clutch plate will require replacement in the future.

The car is roadworthy and comes with a valid MOT. It drives brakes and shifts well although some additional maintenance and fine tuning will further improve the driving experience.

This Volvo is a genuine time capsule presented in honest running condition with extensive documentation included. It is equally suitable as a practical classic for regular use or as a rare collector's item ready to be enjoyed and further improved.
